The 2010-2011 J Street U Board will be elected at the Summer Leadership Institute (SLI). In preparation for the elections, all nominees must submit a written platform with either their photo or a short video to tammy@jstreetu.org by April 28th. These platforms will be posted on the J Street U website.
Note: Students may run for 1 at large position and 1 regional delegate position. We will vote for the at-large positions first and the regional representatives second. Students who do not attain an at large position may run for a regional representative afterwards. For more information, click here to see a breakdown of board positions.
In order to run for a J Street U board position, students must:
- Be a member of a J Street U, Affiliated or Partner group;
- Be an experienced student leader;
- Agree to a significant time commitment including attendance at all J Street U board retreats and conference calls, J Street U national conferences and the SLI following their tenure. This year’s SLI will be held from May 27th – 31st, and the 2011 J Street national conference will be held from February 26th – March 1st. Other dates will be determined shortly.
- Commit to the full year term beginning on June 1st, 2010 through the SLI following their tenure, and be registered as a student at their campus for the entire academic year;
- Believe in the J Street U mission;
- Have participated in some J Street U national activities such as national and regional conferences, campaigns, regional conference calls and the online forum;
- Be knowledgeable about, and remain up to date on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
- Be prepared to always be a spokesperson for J Street U in all capacities.
The platform is the place for nominees to communicate to J Street U activists nationally their reasons for running for the board and their vision for the movement.
The platform should answer the following questions and should be between 1 and 2 pages long. Please include your name, university, year, campus group name and its J Street U affiliated status.

2. What is your experience with leadership? Tell us a story.
3. Why did you get involved with J Street U? Why do you want to join the board, and why are you interested in the specific position(s) you are seeking?
4. Based on the explanation of the positions and the criteria listed above, please explain how you are qualified for this position.
5. What is one thing you want to see J Street U accomplish in the following year (please write with the understanding that these ideas may or may not be possible)
6. What is one challenge you anticipate J Street U will face as a national movement and what are some potential solutions?
